Carpets, rugs and embroideries are probably a much better representation of Syrian textiles than this particular piece. I have seen rugs of various sizes covering the walls and ceilings of Bagdad Cafe (http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2010/aug/21/bagdad-cafe-hostel-syria-backpacking, a cafe about half way between Damascus and Palmyra), while others served as upholstery on wooden benches and chairs. I am not entirely sure if this piece has been made for a specific purpose. I bought it purely for its vibrant colours. It's quite large, good for table cloth although a little on the heavy side, or spread out on an old couch that needs some cheering up.
Textiles, anything else that is beautiful and inspiring . . . . a few travels, some shoppings . . .

Colours from Palmyra, Syria.
