Shopping for baskets in Vientiane, Laos.

A mix of used and old baskets for sale outside a cafe.  More inside on the wall of the cafe.

Old Rice Basket, China.

This is a purchase in Lijiang, Yunnan.  A rare and old rice basket.  Young local girls and boys in the shops were most fascinated by it as they had never seen one before, and those who might have one around the house when they were little had only vague memories of it.

Small basket

Made in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

At the Institute of Khmer Traditional Textile ( http://iktt.esprit-libre.org/en/ ), women weave, men sometimes make baskets and boxes for packagings. This is a small basket, measures only about 14cm in diameter.  I like the economy and unsophisticated design, a simple square of contrasting weaves forming the base of a round rim basket.
