' Same Same BUT Different '

Beautiful cushion covers are plentiful these days.  However, good needlework and embroidery are a bit of a rarity.  I found these pieces from a Kashmiri dealer in Northern Thailand.  He told me they were made by family members back in Kashmir. Supply, in any quantity, is never a problem because he has a large family to help in the production. I was the only customer in the shop that evening.  He complained that business had been slow and warmly welcomed my visit.  I had no intention of making any purchase, certainly no plan of buying any cushion covers. But, it was difficult to walk away from these beautiful applique'!  I love their simplicity, the random and economy use of materials, and especially the sense of fun they each express. The old running stitch has never looked so effective and beautiful.  I hope whoever that makes them has had some fun!
