Naxi Textiles

I first came across these pieces in the very popular Bookworm in Chengdu, China. Yes, a bookshop! But it was in the lovely cafe area that I saw them. I like them at first sight, the colours and the simplicity of its patterns, but also how well the contrasting elements worked when put together. I couldn't wait to locate them! But I did guess it might have come somewhere from the Yunnan Province, where you find the biggest concentration of ethnic minorities in China. I was not disappointed, there were some good pieces around as I found out during our one week stay there. It is not difficult to find them in the winter months, I believe they are intended to be used as shawls. However, they will also look good on the wall or the table. Unfortunately, designs are limited and quality varies, most apparent in the control of colours. The pieces are handwoven, cotton but probably not 100%, each measured approx. 120x103cm (+5cm tussles on both ends).  All pieces with number are for sale, at RM58 (about USD20, depending on the exchange rate) a piece.

NFS -  there is a little fault at one end where the tussles start.  However, as the colours are so busy, it is not immediately noticeable unless one looks for it.
